When I earned my BS in English, with a thirty credit business minor, I already had fifteen years experience working in a family run retail store. I have since worked a range of jobs including teaching business, computer and English classes. I also worked as a computer systems installer, service manager and office manager. I believe each child has their own learning style. Through a variety of approaches and materials each child can find success in reading and math in their elementary school years. I enjoy finding each child's path to success. I have taught Special Education for 26 years and third grade for 6. My initial approach is to ascertain exactly where the student stands prior to starting any course work. Students can be and are easily frustrated with work that is either beyond their ability or more advanced. Frustration can be either eliminated or reduced when students have a better understanding of their work. When teaching Math, my experiences have also taught me that younger students are very hands on and tend to absorb concepts quicker when they are able to manipulate objects enabling them to better understand the concrete.
