A Little Bit About Me...

I believe each student is different, therefore their learning style is different. Patience is of utmost importance in working with children, especially in the educational setting. Children need constant guidance and motivation and understanding in order to be academically successful; and success is measured differently for each student.
I have a Bachelors degree in PSychology and a Masters degree in Social Work specializing in working with children/families. I have 13 years of experience working with children in the educational and home setting helping to mentor them by providing them with the tools necessary to be academically successful. I have not only counseled students in school but have assisted them in staying on tasks and completing assignments; as well as tutoring in reading, math, spelling, language arts, test taking, etc.

I am very aware that everyone learns at different levels and in different ways. I am observant and mindful of this in teaching. I have worked with children with special needs for many years. Also, teaching ESL has helped me become a strong teacher because it has made me excellent with non verbal communication. It is important to have a stimulating environment for students. I want my students to want to come to my classroom and become involved in the lessons. I believe in balance. I think it is important to have fun but also be productive. No two people learn alike. Everyone has their own learning style and in my years of teaching, I was able to adapt my teaching style to the style of learning that was sufficient for my students.
