I define teaching as the process by which I help students to learn. I like to make teaching fun! If a student is bored they aren't going to be putting 100% into their work. I also use a positive reward system and celebrate all achievement. Even if it is minor.
I have been working with kids of all ages for a long time. I love to see them learn and grow. That moment when they "get" something is magical! My teaching style totally depends on the student(s) that I am working with. Not all children learn at the same pace, nor do they all have the same attention span. That said, I find that applying the “token economy” approach, in getting the children to focus on the task, is very effective. If given time and patience, children are capable of accomplishing most anything.

I think the biggest part of getting children to understand what they need to know is relating to something that they like. For example, if a child likes basketball then you can relate counting and math to how the players score points in a basketball game. I think it is important to be patient and get to know the children in order to teach them effectively. I also think that making learning fun and inventive is an effective way of teaching.
