I have been substitute teaching for four years for all grades and all subjects. I have been tutoring in my home for two years all grades in mainly mathematics. I have trained students in cognitive thinking skills at Learning RX for 2 years. I have three children of my own, two in college and one is a senior in high school. I was a stay-at-home mom for 20 years and I have worked with my children in of all their subjects. I earned my AS in Mathematics in 2003 and my BS in Secondary Education in 2006. I have a passion for children and mathematics. I am a very positive person with a high level of energy. I believe children are capable of whatever they believe they can do and at times whatever you believe they can do. I set high goals for the students I work with and they work toward those goals. I am a secondary math teacher. I use several different teaching methods in my classroom to ensure I reach as many students as possible. I also worked at Sylvan Learning Center until it closed. I tutored for all levels of math. I helped students at the elementary level with the learning program. I also did individualize tutoring for high school students who came in for homework help. I also helped with some college level courses including college algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. I did the ACT prep program as well as tutored for several other college entry exams. I have been trained in the APL teaching methods and am currently involved in Nebraska Mathematics Professional Development Series. I am a proud graduate of Iowa State University in Child, Adult, and Family Services with an emphasis on child development. With my education I have had experience researching child development in a hands on manner through the Iowa State's Child Development Lab, which ranges of children from birth to six years old. In the classroom, I have development an extensive understanding of the way children develop both mentally and physically, as well as effective ways to discipline children in a dignified manner. I am currently in my second year of teaching. Before teaching, I worked in an afterschool program for students.I have had multiple experiences working with children from all types of backgrounds, socio-economic status, and ability levels. I hold a bachelor degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement as an Instructional Strategist I, which has enabled me to gain an understanding of the variety of teaching and learning strategies. In addition, I am a mentor teacher to two new teachers and I am working toward my Masters degree in Education. I love teaching and working with all learners. I believe all children can learn!
