A Little Bit About Me...

As a substitute teacher in the Bethalto school district, I feel I have been trained in all of the subjects necessary to tutor students. On a daily occurrence, I teach math, science, english, reading, social studies, etc. My specialties are english and reading. English was my minor in college and is something that has always been second nature to me. I was also a personal tutor for a child in the spring of '08 an fall of '08. His grades improved drastically from Ds and Fs, to Bs.
I have a very unique way of teaching. My key to success works on a system of discipline and rewards. I find creative ways to make the most mundane tasks fun to accomplish. I think the number on rule in teaching strategy should be finding a way to make the process enjoyable. A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with students of varied ethnic, social, and economic backgrounds. I lean more towards the Progressive style of teaching in that I teach my students the skills and strategies that will help them become successful in society. I am also aware that my students learn differently, so I differentiate my instructions towards their individual needs.
I have teaching experience on all grade levels in urban school districts. I am currently a special education teacher in the Saint Louis Public School District, and I have enjoyed the challenge of working with educationally handicapped students and seeing many of them being mainstreamed into the general education population. I have set-up courses in different manners and have come to the realization that students must be engaged. I create engagement in a variety of ways using differing types of assignments and projects to attempt to hook the students. I also understand the importance of developing a relationship with the students. Before students will accept your teaching they must see you knowledgeable and looking out for their best interests.
As a non-traditional student I was more mature when I returned to finish my degree than when I had originally gone to school. As a result I graduated Suma Cum Laude and was awarded the Competitive Graduate Award from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to begin my graduate education.
