Teaching, in some form, has been a part of my life for the last 20 years. During that time I discovered for myself that students learn in different ways. I believe that patience is one of the most important qualities any tutor could have. I believe once students realize that everyone needs help in life, whether it be work or school, they will succeed and completely change their view on tutors and their future education. As a student at Kansas State University, I am currently enrolled in the Architectural Engineering degree and I am completing my last math class as of now. Being a big sister has always been my favorite job; therefore, I have always sought out opportunities to mentor. From very early on I have been drawn toward teaching. As a student I was a tutor for many of the classes I took. I tutored Chemistry I, Beginner and Intermediate Algebra as well as a number of Accounting classes. When I graduated I immediately began looking for positions that would enable me to teach. I was very lucky to be offered a position as an Adjunct Professor at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. I have held that position since January, 2010 and I love it! I don't believe in an unteachable student. One of the greatest pleasures I have in teaching is having a breakthrough with a student that has had difficulty. My style is relaxed and informal, but effective. School already provides enough structure, and with a relaxed mind, information can be processed more easily. 1 hour sessions multiple times a week is the best way for the information to sink in. I have held informal teaching positions throughout my entire life. I have tutored everything from pre-algebra to Calculus to Piano. I'm currently employed as an after school tutor for middle school students, 6th grade to 8th, and independently tutor on Saturdays.
