I was home-schooled until the sixth grade with my three brothers. I completed junior high at a private school and then graduated Salutatorian from a public high school. My parents operated a small day care that I worked in with school age children completing homework assignments. I have also worked in a Day Care as a caregiver for small children. Volunteering at a Family Literacy program and doing Student Practicums for three years followed by a semester of Student Teaching have all prepared me to teach children from all backgrounds with different educational and emotional needs.

From 2nd grade to my freshman year of college at Converse College, I took rigorous piano lessons from two teachers. Each year, I competed in several competitions, one of which was always a state-wide piano competition. After my freshman year, I decided that I wanted to be a band director, so I switched to flute (which I have had seven years of prior experience). Converse College allowed me several opportunities on both instruments. With piano, I performed in a recital and a piano duo for a semester. With flute, I performed with the Converse Wind Ensemble, Converse Symphony Orchestra, and Converse Opera (Fiddler on the Roof). I also gave a flute junior and senior recital at appropriate times.

Since I enjoy teaching students of all ages, I think I adapt easily to many personalities. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching both children and adults, from beginners on up to future music majors. Each student is unique, so I try to adapt my instruction to take advantage of each students strenghts. Those strengths may be musical background, ability to play by ear, strong theory skills, and so on. I also enjoy teaching different musical skills such as: Theory, ear training, and arranging. Although I have been self employed for the last 6 years, I went back to school last year to add Science and Math for middle school to my certification. I passed the Praxis for both of those subjects spring of 2010. I was not able to get a full time teaching position this year. I went back to working for myself but would love to tutor. I have tutored for 3 years while I worked for Tryon Elementary school. I had great success with the students I worked with, in particular concerning math.
