A Little Bit About Me...

While my B.A. degree has give me the educational experience I need to pursue a professional career path, my real experience has come from my years of studying music. I have been playing the piano for 20 years and during this time have taught piano lessons for 10 of these years and have been a church pianist, organist and choir accompaniest for 15 years. I love teaching all ages.
Since I enjoy teaching students of all ages, I think I adapt easily to many personalities. I am a creative person and am always willing and open to using creative methods to make learning playing the piano fun and an enjoyable time for both students and myself. After graduation from App. State, I traveled across much of the US as a professional musician. I have teaching experience with both adults and childeren in both classical music and church music. I also have experience in recording as a producer and arranger.

I understand that any child can run into problems with schoolwork. I try to find out why the child is having a problem before trying to help them. Did he miss something and fall behind? Is she simply bored with the subject? The approach I take with the child depends on the answers to these questions. I feel it is important for the learner to understand that there is a reason for making the effort to learn each subject. In math, I like to assign the numbers and equations to subjects the learner likes, such as pizza, sports or music, for example. I also find it is beneficial to make references to the different careers one might use the knowledge learned in the child's classes.

I was home-schooled until the sixth grade with my three brothers. I completed junior high at a private school and then graduated Salutatorian from a public high school. My parents operated a small day care that I worked in with school age children completing homework assignments. I have also worked in a Day Care as a caregiver for small children.
