I worked for over 2 years as a study session leader for various engineering courses while getting my B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I also tutored several students in engineering classes at the college level. I have experience working with elementary through high school students as well.
I have a passion for helping people, and nothing satifies me more than helping a person understand a concept and succeed in his or her class. My high school education was comprised of "alternative" education and a summer semester at Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. Between 1983 and 1989, as a long-term substitute teacher for the ROP (in CA), I taught Computer Sciences (which included Elementary Math and Algebra)at Anderson Valley High School in Boonville CA. As a full-time teacher, I taught Culinary Arts for the ROP for four years at the Fort Bragg High School, Fort Bragg, CA. I have taught Medical Neuroanatomy to medical students at the University of Iowa Medical School. Students were directed in dissecting and identifying parts of the human brain. This occurred in small groups of five or six students. I also taught Molecular Neurobiology at Friday Harbor Laboratories to graduate students who came from around the world to take the course. This involved all parts of a laboratory class including lectures, small group discussions, and one-on-one teaching. I have also tutored numerous undergraduates in a variety of math and science areas.

Relaxed but demanding. I try to teach at the level of the class and try to tutor on a one-to-one basis at the students ability. Try to put myself in students perspective. Try to feel out the students perception of Mathematics and then try and tailor the presented material on that basis. Many students take Math because it is required and not worth putting any extra thought other than passing the course. I teach by example and experience as to how the concepts of Math apply to their everyday lives.
