For the past five years I have been a substitute teacher for MSAD 58. Grade levels I have experience with include K through 12. While I have subbed in all subjects, I really enjoy working with secondary level students in mathematics. A few years ago I filled in for a high school teacher for six weeks. I even got to plan lessons and grade work. I really enjoyed the time I spent with these students helping them pass their Algebra Competency exams. My experience as a tutor during my school years has taught me that students have hard time on subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Calculus and Biology, not because they didn't have good instructors, but because students were not provided enough background information on various topics. I have always employed a fun-filled curious environment to my students which have helped them come up with more questions and instill passion on the subject matters. I provide enough background information on the subject matters first, give a big picture of the subject matters and then break things apart and teach them parts. This methodology has always been effective because students find it easier to learn all the necessary ingredients in order to grasp the big topic. I always make sure students are given enough practice questions on subjects like calculus, physics and chemistry.
