A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught for 13 years in the subjects of Math and Special Education. I have taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Pre-Algebra, Basic Math, and Special Education math. I have worked with a variety of students including learning disabilities, at-risk, struggling in math, ADHD, Autistic, Hearing Impaired, and many others. IN NEED OF A JOB

I like to have a fun open minded discussion. I don't like boring so I will do my best to spice it up.
I have obtained my GED and have always had straight As in high school. I'm also familiar with construction and building skills. I am a visual learner and will do my best to make the teaching fun. I have also obtained 13 college credits from Kalamazoo valley central college. The 13 credits that I have obtained are in computer skills. A Little Bit About Me...

I recently have spent the last six months in the Head Start Program as a center teacher. We prepare them for kindergarten. I have taught all grade levels. I currently have a BA with a concentration in K-8 education. Due to online classes, I have written hundreds of research and essay papers using APA style although I have helped my son use MLA which I can write in effectively.
Teaching mainly K-8 on a consistent schedule, I have learned that some students need one-on-one teaching. Being the third teacher in Head Start, I had time to work with individual students. All children were very well prepared for kindergarten. The older children, including High School and Middle School, I would walk around the room and aide them when they were confused. I am an essentialist in philosophy, meaning I want the student(s) to learn material that is relevant to their experiences and that they can find useful to their lives. I want to engage them in their learning so that they can use many different learning styles. I want to show them that learning is something they can do for the rest of their lives and that they benefit from their own hard work. I graduated from MSU in 2001 with a degree in Int'l Relations and Business. In 2007 I returned to school. During that time I took all the pre-reqs for the Accelerated Nursing program, earning a 4.0 in each. The classes included psych, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, bio and chem. I have been tutoring professionally for about 2 years now, but before that I worked with a lot of my friends and family. I struggled with ADD/ADHD while in school, and had to teach myself the skills to become a good student.
