A Little Bit About Me...

While working as a private tutor, I was able to work one-on-one with an emotionally troubled teen, which helped me to learn that everyone learns at different speeds and in different ways. I was able to implement several learning strategies, until we found one that was most conducive to his learning. During my peer tutoring time at Brevard College, I had the opportunity to work with a handful of special needs students, including a form of autism. My teaching style is to insist on excellence in speaking, writing, and reading in English. I work with patience, but over a reasonable amount of time, constantly using the wrong tense will earn students a demerit on the class "OOP's" chart. This is a "fun" classroom tool but soon they begin to correct themselves and each other. I believe in building vocabulary, giving spelling tests, and reading aloud with proper pronunciation, diction, and intonation. I want my students to learn correct sentence structure and punctuation and to know the reason why.
