My comments on tutoring Accounting : I taught accounting at Ohio University and Remington College. I passed the AICPA exam in 1969 (first try). I have four years experience as a CPA with Ernst & Young. I have four years of experience at MPI. I do my own accounting and taxes for my Company.

I have over 15 years as a succesful instructor and tutor (middle school, high school, under graduate and graduate students)of mathematics,computer science (computer programing)and business courses including accounting, finance, statistics,economis, medical dosage calculations, hospital information statistics, etc. I also founded my Company, Alpha Omega Education and Training Systems,Ltd., in 2001. I would like to work with a student needing help w/ acctg.

I would let the student try to work the problem and explain what he or she knows. Then I would explain how the correct answer is arrived at and review with the student. I would then select another similar question to see if the student can apply what we just discussed.
As a Senior in college, I worked the help room for students taking the first year accounting class. I spent my time answering questions and helping people work study questions. I would like to think that I was able to help some students. Accounting is not an easy subject to learn for someone who has never been exposed to it. I feel I have the proper background to help. I have a bachelor's degree in Accounting and I am a CPA. My current full-time position is as a Controller for my company. I also work part-time for HR Block preparing tax returns.

My comments on tutoring Accounting : I am a CPA in the state of Ohio. I am teaching accounting at a local college. I have tutored students in accounting.

I stated my career as a 7th and 8th grade math teacher in Oberlin Ohio. I taught two years at Beachwood High School, teaching algebra, geometry, physics and calculus. I went back to school to receive my masters in accounting. I work for a large public accounting firm and received by CPA license. From public accounting I started my internal audit career. After earning my accounting degree I worked as an accountant for the University of Akron. Before taking early reirement in 1997, I taught remedial math to the university freshmen approximately five times between 1992 and 1997. During this same period of time, I also worked as a reading tutor for Project LEARN of Summit County. In 2005,I began teaching undergraduate-level history course for Kent State University as I was working on my dissertation. The courses I taught included Early American History, U.S. Modern History, Ohio History, History of World War II, and History of the Vietnam War.

I tend to use stories and analogies to break down complex and arcane concepts into everyday images to make them easier to understand. Accounting lends itself well to this approach because at its core GAAP accounting is nothing more than a common sense approach to valuing and reporting financial transactions. Shorn of their technical jargon, one can see that they are easy to understand. The key is how to remove the technical wrappings so that the student can see the intuitive logic behind the jargon.
