A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy helping students improve their writing skills. In college, I majored in print journalism. I was an editor at a student newspaper for about six months. In addition to assigning articles and posting articles on the Internet, I mentored other journalism students. I helped them improve their style and grammar. After graduating, I began work at a weekly newspaper. I started out as a news and feature writer, but was promoted to a news and copy editor after several months. I advised and edited the work of three writers. Although my work experience is specifically in journalism, I also enjoy helping students with other writing assignments like essays and short stories.

A Little Bit About Me...

I received a teaching certificate in college through an internship in Buenos Aires where I taught English. At the University of Virginia, I tutored international graduate students. I worked with elementary children who had reading and behavioral difficulties through a volunteer program. I have tutored many children in French. I lived in France during high school, and have since then dedicated myself to languages. I received a BA in comparative literature which is a study of French and Spanish literature.
I believe languages are full of life. Although grammar is important and necessary, it should not be stale. I think it is essential to maintain the vibrancy of a language with exciting materials, like magazines and games. More About This Tutor...

I prefer to use the Socratic method when teaching. It allows me to interact with my students, giving them autonomy and a sense of worth. I am sensible to their ideas -no matter how far fetched they may be at times- and always supportive in their approaches. Also, I do not hesitate to incorporate technology in the classroom, as this medium has become a very popular and powerful instrument of teaching and learning over the years when properly applied. It is certainly true that, often, a picture is worth a thousand words. In summary, I would like to think that I am more of a facilitator to my students than anything else. This evolving style has proven to be effective in both traditional and online classroom settings.
