I have a wide variety of experience, most of which comes from some sort of writing field. I was my high school newspaper editor, was my classes graduation speaker and am currently writing a book. I am also proficient in history, ranging from U.S. history, world history, politics, comparative government and more specifically war history. I am currently working on my nursing degree, having earned a certified nursing assistant license along with an emergency medical technician license. I have worked with many different students, ranging from middle school through college freshman.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe languages are full of life. Although grammar is important and necessary, it should not be stale. I think it is essential to maintain the vibrancy of a language with exciting materials, like magazines and games. I also listen carefully to the student to learn what they will find most interesting; a discussion of French cuisine, or Latin American tango? For children, I find using imaginary scenarios is effective and entertaining. I think, for everyone, stretching the mind to learn a language should be rewarding and fun!
I received a teaching certificate in college through an internship in Buenos Aires where I taught English. At the University of Virginia, I tutored international graduate students. I prefer to use the Socratic method when teaching. It allows me to interact with my students, giving them autonomy and a sense of worth. I am sensible to their ideas -no matter how far fetched they may be at times- and always supportive in their approaches. Also, I do not hesitate to incorporate technology in the classroom, as this medium has become a very popular and powerful instrument of teaching and learning over the years when properly applied. It is certainly true that, often, a picture is worth a thousand words. In summary, I would like to think that I am more of a facilitator to my students than anything else. This evolving style has proven to be effective in both traditional and online classroom settings.
