Knowledge is power!

I think it extremely important to use visual and audio aids in teaching a foreign language to keep the student engaged in the language. I do not believe in excessive error correction. I think it quite important for language teachers to demonstrate passion for the subject as well as maintain a positive attitude. Instead of criticizing students for making errors in the language which can prove harmful to the language learning process, it is much more important to constantly encourage students to do their best to improve their skills in the language.

English ESOL is one of my top subjects!

I am a certified English and ESL teacher with more than nine years of formal experience. I've taught students who range from five to sixty years old in a variety of settings including public schools, private schools, and community outreach programs. I was recently recognized as the Teacher of the Year for my school and district. Also, I've studied, taught, and given teacher trainings around the world. I am very passionate about what I teach and what I do, and I bring this energy to my tutoring sessions.
I tailor my teaching to the learning sales and needs of my students, but I personally like to make my lesions Nd sessions as realistic as possible. If the lesson's goals allow for it, I involve reading, writing, listening, and speaking in an authentic way. I also try to begin lessons with a formative assessment to gauge prior knowledge. This allows me to incorporate the right amo ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have had many years experience teaching students at the middle and secondary levels. I have an exceptional knowledge of all areas of English - American and British literature, composition, and grammar - demonstrated in part by my perfect scores on the teaching professional test, the Praxis. Additionally, I have had five years experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) at all levels. I have enjoyed great success teaching ESL to absolute beginners, with many of my students progressing from no English to 5th or 6th grade reading levels after one year's instruction.
I enjoy teaching students at all ability levels. I have the expertise to challenge and assist the most advanced learners, and the skills and teaching strategies to lead struggling students to high levels of success. While all aspects of English came easily to me as a student, I have had other courses that chal ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style for Spanish is proficiency-based, culture-based and student-centered. My college students master basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar through writing grocery lists, ordering from a menu, describing how they are feeling, and even decorating skull cookies for the Day of the Dead. On a similar note, I teach children by discovering and exploring Spanish with them. Together we decorate Day of the Dead cookies, create and label picture posters, and play games in Spanish to practice vocabulary. Each activity always targets the child's strongest learning styles and their comfort zones.
I began tutoring Spanish as an undergraduate twenty-five years ago. In college, graduate school and as a professor I wrote literary analyses in Spanish, English and Portuguese. Many of these papers were written from historical, sociological or psychoanalytic perspectives. I taught all leve ... read more

I believe that first and foremost, teachers should inspire students to not only live up to their own potential, but to exceed their expectations and realize that they can meet and surpass any goal they set for themselves. I encourage students to take risks, knowing that I am behind them being fully supportive. My teaching style varies depending on what student I am teaching. I enjoy tailoring lessons to the specific child. Being able to do this is, in my opinion, one of the biggest advantages of working in a one-on-one setting. I have a strong work ethic, and a success for a student is a success for me. I thoroughly enjoy making any effort necessary to see improvement in the academic standing of a child.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience has included eight years in public and private schools in the USA and four years in an international school in Germany. During these years of teaching I taught elementary fourth and fifth, middle school 7-9 grades with varied subjects, and also high school for Bible as Literature. Since I lived overseas, learned the language there and had taught, I had the opportunity to work as an ESL tutor for 5 years in the States. In the public school I also have served as a Math and Reading tutor to elementary students for 4 years.
Since children do have different learning styles, I have found that some of your beginning stages with them is figuring out how to effectively work with a student. After that discovery incorporating these learning styles in the lessons will aid in having successful learning experiences. This is my first goal as I begin to plan individual or small ... read more
