A Little Bit About Me...

When teaching mathematics, I believe that over half of my job is social skills. Calming my students down, easing their frustration, and making them feel comfortable is over half the battle. It isn't that mathematics is too hard for most people, it is just too frustrating for most people. So my job is to set my client at ease and to create a learning environment. Once that learning environment is created, teaching is easy. I have worked with difficult students. One, who we will call John, has Autism, Schizophrenia, and vomits when upset. I love teaching. While I have also been a counselor and administrator, I managed to be able to at least tutor along the way, with a few exceptional years. I found that children were especially responsive to me, so I often found myself with elementary children (who, under my tutelage, managed to "catch up" an/or improve their grade point average -- often to their parents' delight). Since I love learning, children and teens "catch" my enthusiasm, and invariably get caught up with my honest excitement about a suject. I enjoy working with all children. I believe all children can learn, but each in different ways. To be an effective teacher/tutor, I must first learn the student's learning style.I am not a big fan of the standardized tests, in fact, I believe that many children and young adults may suffer from test anxiety. I believe that I may suffer from that also. I am dependable, honest, friendly, and professional. I believe one of my strongest traits are "setting the example" and finding a way to "teach outside the box".
