More About This Tutor...

Due to the influence of my parents, who are both math educators, I have always wanted to teach. My first job was on the faculty of a teachers’ university in China, where I taught computer science courses. In 1996 I came to the United States to study mathematics, and earned a Master's degree from Indiana University. While I was studying at IU, I was a teaching assistant and also tutored during the summer. Since then I have taught Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry at a high school, as well as Intermediate Algebra and Finite Math at the college level. In addition, I have experience as a classroom instructor and as a tutor with Kaplan, Inc.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is mostly form-fitted to each child. I assess what level they are at, how quickly they learn, and what areas they need help in or should strengthen. I cannot stress the importance of patience when it comes to tutoring children, which I have an abundance of, having taught various ages. Also, having studied psychology, I understand that children are very sensitive to negative feedback. I have experience in how to give constructive criticism to children and how this can only encourage them to do better.
Although my bachelor's degree is in psychology, my interests throughout my education have been to study children; how they learn, how they think, and what I can do to help them better themselves.
