I am a very interactive teacher. I want feedback so I can see the progress the student is making. If they are not getting something, I make adjustments and change tactics. I teach tot he student(s). Everyone learns differently. And sometimes by the time I get to them student, it has nothing to do with their ability but more their confidence because of previously bad experiences. My comments on tutoring English : I encourage students to be familiar with different writing styles and to discover authors they enjoy. Literature is part of any English program.

I have taught grades 3 and six as part of my internship in Messina, New York. I tutored third grade children in remedial reading as a private business. After raising my own children and working in industry I returned to teaching. I taught ESL to adults in Boston, MA and as part of Literacy,Inc in Escondido, CA. I have tutored third grade students in reading as part of Oasis Program. I currently home school a third grade boy in all subjects. My students have enjoyed my classes and found learning can boost their confidence.
I believe a strong emphasis on spelling, grammar and comprehension is key to future learning. I approach these subjects from different angles so that it does stay interesting. I believe in bolstering self confidence and yet encourage students to put effort into their lessons.

My comments on tutoring English : SAT Reading Comprehension and Composition

I have been teaching the SAT for the past 12 years [part time]. For the first five years I was an classroom instructor for Studyworks, Inc. [competitor of Kaplan and Princeton]. When Studyworks left California, I continued by tutoring the brothers and sisters of my classroom students. I started in the teaching field by instructing Vietnamese how to speak English in French. I spent another five years teaching aircraft systems and serving as an instructor pilot in the Air Force.
In contrast to many of the other tutors, I would not presume to even imply that I could teach your student either math or English in a few hours of tutoring.
