My teaching philosophy is focused on teachers being facilitators for students to construct their own knowledge and making learning relevant and purposeful to the students. When teaching, I think about each student's individual learning styles and adapt my lessons to fit those needs. I really try to make learning fun and make sure students understand why they are learning something. I feel that with those things in place, they will be more motivated to learn and continue to learn throughout their lives. That motivation enables students to think at higher levels and become independent thinkers.

I don't think there is anything better than the feeling of helping a child learn. Every student have the ability to learn, we have to adapt our teaching styles so that all students can understand. Our job as teachers is to prepare students for their future. Through education and a caring, nurturing and creative teacher, that is what I hope to give all my students, a future. The brightest one possible.
I began school as a Biology major for 2 years, so I have a great science background. I love to teach children. Also during that time I tutored a group of 6 graders in Math.

I have obtained my Master's Degree in Philosophy and Critical Thought from the French University "Paris VIII". My primary experience has been in politics and philosophy, and has contained, as non-academic experience, involvement in small political groups dealing with specific issues affecting society at large. Learning philosophy has meant a strong knowledge of the English as well as French languages, including a strong background in European history dealing primarily with the period slightly before the French Revolution in France up to the present day, including spots of history in Europe previous to 1775.
I am very open and affable. I have a strong sense of humor and am in no case a hard disciplinarian. What's important is that I believe in sharing knowledge with as many people as is possible. I believe that knowledge belongs to everyone who seeks it. And I believe anyone i ... read more

I think it is more important to understand the student than to understand the material. Don't get me wrong - as a teacher I always re-educate myself to the material if need be - but I feel my real strength as an educator lies in finding a new way to teach the same concept. If a student is failing to learn, it is less often the material itself and more often the way it is being presented. Finding a new way is something I have practiced in school and at BOCES, and is my greatest strength as a teacher.
I hold an English degree from a program that largely overlapped with Education - basically, I have studied teaching as a student at college. On the other end of the spectrum, I have been a substitute educator for Capital Region BOCES for 3 years, working with teaching professionals on short-term assignments. Through this experience I believe I have gathered a good deal of craft in the a ... read more

I began teaching as a college sophomore at MIT. For 9 years, I taught primarily Multivariable Calculus, but also single-variable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and several writing courses. Since graduating, I have been involved in various volunteer tutoring efforts. My minors are in Math, German, and Writing. I happen to be a black female, the first to earn bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in Mechanical Engineering at MIT. I am happy to work with anyone, but I might be a particularly meaningful match for a minority or female student. In addition to tutoring, I would hope to serve as a "can-do" example for someone who might not have dared to dream big enough.
I believe in the "practice makes perfect" approach, especially when it comes to math, science, and language study. That said, I also believe that practice can be interesting, fun, encouraging and reinforcing. I would hop ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching children of all ages. I believe that a good teacher is one that can reach any child regardless of how that specific student learns best. One thing that I have found that works best is finding out the many interests of a student and then using those interests to engage the child. Once a child is engaged in the material, teaching is the easy part. I believe modeling is one of the key aspects in order for a child to be successful. If they watch a teacher model the correct way of doing something, often time it is easier for them to follow that lead.
As a graduate from SUNY Albany with a Masters in Literacy I take education in reading very seriously. I have been tutoring local students for the past three years. I have also substituted in the Capital Region for the past four years at various grade levels. In 2008, I taught 6th grade English Language Arts at Hoosi ... read more

I know that every student learns differently; so as a teacher, I must find the best way to teach each student and transfer that into my lessons, so that all the students get involved. I also believe in more hands-on and relating information to modern day things that the students can relate to, which will allow them to re-call the information better.
I have always been driven by helping others. I graduated college and got into the environmental testing field as a chemist. I have been doing this for 6 years. I am currently working towards my certification to becoming a chemistry, physics and math teacher.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love tutoring and working with children to young adults. The internet provides a lot of information but the joy of going to the library to discover new worlds, knowledge or just for the fun of it is still a worthwhile venture. I have tutored students who truly abhored reading but when we read about New York City and took them to the places of interest we studied and it truly got them excited about the next book. My methods are varied but consistent. I teach outdoors weather permitting on field trips and with themes to keep the child interested and wanting to read and learn.
As a mother of 16 yr old twins, I have always been a tutor in reading, english and literature. I believe in providing a safe, consistent, and enthusiastic enviornment for children to learn. I truly believe children are not cut from the same mold, and we must get to know the individual child, their strengths, areas of weakness, and interests. Children all learn differently and it is most beneficial to teach them a variety of strategies to help them gain a better understanding and grasp whatever it is we are teaching them. I enjoy working with children and feel my motivation and love of teaching brings me closer to reaching the children I work with!
I have over ten years of teaching experience. I had my own third and second grade classrooms for a total of eight years, which included daily/weekly planning, teacher/parent communication, colleague teamwork to develop units, development of assessments and designing/usage of rubrics, report cards, and classroom management i ... read more

I have been an amateur tutor ever since high school, when I tutored classmates for free. I spent 6 years as a nuclear trained electrician in the US Navy, 10 years in academia where I studied and taught psychology, biology, and communications, and the past 10 years in retail management. I took it upon myself to conduct impromptu training sessions in many different areas of study while in the Navy, and actively helped shipmates engaged in external study programs. I implemented a tutoring program for pre-med and pre-vet students and others while a member of Beta-Beta-Beta (the National Honor Society for Biology) at Southern Illinois University. I have used my teaching and training skills in innumerable situations as a retail manager. I am a life-long learner and actively acquire and absorb lectures on cd in many disciplines through The Teaching Company.
