I began school as a Biology major for 2 years, so I have a great science background. I love to teach children. I finished my Masters program in December 07 and began teaching at the school I did my internship at, Briarcliff MS. I taught grades 6-8 and filled in for a Special Ed teacher at the end of the year. Also during that time I tutored a group of 6 graders in Math.
I don't think there is anything better than the feeling of helping a child learn. Every student have the ability to learn, we have to adapt our teaching styles so that all students can understand. Our job as teachers is to prepare students for their future. Through education and a caring, nurturing and creative teacher, that is what I hope to give all my students, a future. I find each experience in teaching to be different. The two girls that I tutored were both unique in personality and learning style. I find that identifying what needs the child has is the key to helping them learn. Also- figuring out what they like to learn and what they dislike is important. Although the ‘dislikes’ may be necessary, when they are identified, you can reward the student who completes them with an activity they enjoy. I understand that language does not come easily to everyone and that patience and perseverance pay off.
