I am the mother of 3 children, two with college degrees and one currently in college. I was very involved throughout my children's school years, volunteering in the classroom, tutoring, etc. I have also tutored privately since my children left school. Prior to having children, I was a Systems Analyst for Servistar Corporation, and returned as a consultant for them for three years betweent my first and second children.

Throughout my education, I have come to learn and adapt to many different types of learners. My approach to teaching is more of a "why" approach. It is more important for students to know why something is or works rather than just how. This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. I also like to use visual aids as well as conversation. I have found that many of us vary widely in learning styles. I believe that learning is best achieved in a comfortable, nothreatening enviroment. People learn best when they understand the importance of the material being taught, something I strive to convey to my students. While I can easily teach a didactic lecturing style, I feel that an interactive approach often better meets the needs of the students. Ultimately, education is a reflection of the students success and the teacher is merely a means to that end.

A Little Bit About Me...

Ever since I was quite young I have enjoyed mathematics. I went into the field of engineering to apply this love of mathematics and logical thinking to systems and products useful to our everyday lives, first as a Corrosion Engineer then later with a Master’s degree in the Biomedical field. I now use my love of the subject to encourage students, especially female students, in the elementary grades and tutoring at the local community college in all math related subjects, from business math through calculus.
