I have worked with children in one role or another for the past ten years. Last semester I student taught 8th grade American History in Fort Collins and completed my social studies licensure. I then substitute taught a myriad of subjects from English to Math, grades pre-K through 12th grade. Before that I spent four years going through CSU's education department and semesters with students ranging 6th grade to 12th grade. I believe that if a student doesn't understand what is being taught, part of the fault lies in the way the information is being presented. Most standard classroom settings do not provide the type of learning environment many students need, and I believe this is the root cause of their struggle with the subject matter, not the subject matter itself and certainly not the student.
