A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been a lover of children starting in middle school volunteering at learning activities for children. Since then, I have developed skills in teaching, especially in the area of reading. I believe children should be educated in the least restrictive environment, placing them in the situation where they can best reach their potentials. I try to engage children in challenging, interactive and reinforcing learning situations. I approach material from the visual and auditory perspectives. A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of Bethel University, I am currently pursuing a teaching career and am committed to excellence. While I was at Bethel, I earned two bachelor degrees, one in Creative Writing and one in Spanish. I assisted numerous friends by copy editing their essays, showing them where I saw they could improve while affirming where I saw their strengths. Each of these friends received A's or B's on their polished work. I also studied in Spain for one semester to complete my degree. I have worked with the Special Needs community for almost five years now, and have worked for ACR Homes in St. Paul, MN and for REM, Iowa besides working as a para-educator for Wickham elementary. My teaching experience has been primarily focused on elementary education, however I have tutored freshman in English and History. I have a degree in psychology from St. Ambrose in Davenport and finished my licensure at Ottawa University in Phoenix. I am certified to teach K-6 in Arizona and I have applied for Iowa certification.
Because of my elementary background, it is safe to say I am a very patient person and I use that skill in my ability. I allow the children to create their own paths and when there are roadblocks we work together to find a solution. I am not in the habit of giving students the answers. I feel education is most effective when self discovery is involved and I want my students to feel that they are learning and achieving in every way possible. All students are capable of success; some just need more guidance than others.
