I believe students will rise to the level of expectations set for them. I am a bit of a comedian, and I use humor to allay frustration in learning situations. I believe in setting goals and charting a specific path for reaching them, while being flexible enough to alter the path along the way. Praise and positive reinforcement are powerful tools when teaching challenging material, and I use them frequently. I received a BA in General Business from WSU, and was honored as a Cum Laude graduate. The courses were varied and included a wide array of math application, from supply and demand curves to interest rate calculations. My classmates gave me the nickname "Webster" because I was frequently asked to edit their papers and to tutor them in several different subjects. I love working with teenagers, and watching their faces change when they really GET a concept for the first time!

As a teacher or tutor it is very important to realize that everybody learns differently. Because of this you have to strive to find the way your student learns and utilize creative ways to make sure the student understands what you are teaching to them. In my experience I have used pictures, words, books, varying explanations, and multiple examples to teach. My teaching experience actually extends back to high school where not only did I tutor fellow students in math and chemistry but I also taught swim lessons as my part time job. More recently I tutored students in the chemistry study center at the University of Washington. Furthermore, anyone who attends a University knows that being a successful active learner involves studying in groups where you teach others and others teach you.

I enjoy working with children and get a kick from seeing a discovery or understanding in a students eyes. I've had the opportunity to collect numerous bio. samples for hands on experience. I have also taken workshops in the workings of google earth as a teaching tool along with mapping and watershed principles.I feel I have benn successful in elightening many student's lives. I started teaching in 1970 as a K-8 substitute, continuing until being hired by a private school in 1975. I then taught full time in East LA. Upon moving to Wa. and being certified here, I taught in several schools in differing cultural settings untill recently starting my own business in Newport. I have also tutored and graded math praxis.

As a Controller, analyst and consultant of Computerized Accounting systems for small and medium sized businesses, I have 25 years plus, of extensive experience training and teaching both accounting and non-accounting executives how to data entry in 'subsidiary journals' like Accounts Receivable, Payable, Payroll, Fixed Assets and how to reconcile to 'control accounts' in General Ledger. My approach to tutoring would be to explain the mechanics of recording business transactions (two sides to a transactions, thus "double entry") rather than rote learning.This would benefit them to pass exams as well as in business if they chose to pursue a career in business and finance.
