I have tutored students for many of the college science classes. I have also been a tutor for an elementary school in Bloomington. I am also an experienced test prep tutor, having helped students prepare for everything from class tests to the GED, SAT, and ACT.
I have learned that the best way to teach is to let the student know how much you enjoy the subject and then work to make them feel the same way. I also know that you cannot predict what methods will be best for all people. I prepare extensivesly with sample tests, worksheets, as well as fun learning activities. While I enjoy working with a younger population, I have had more experience with middle school, high school, and college students. I am very patient and easy-going, but I also expect that my students perform the tasks asked of them in the time given, as to further reach our goals. I have a descriptive way of teaching, but I am also a firm believer in using abstract methods in order to obtain and understanding. Visual aids can also be very helpful, such as using pictures, every-day items, or a chemistry model set.
