I think that exposing them to real world applications, as well as the fun side of what they need to know encourages them to continue learning long after they no longer "have to". Understanding that all children learn differently, I try many different ways of approaching a subject, until we find something that makes sense. I love helping people who are learning in a field that I love. I chose to go into accounting while I was still in high school and I haven't had a regret yet. I believe that teaching through lecture and hands-on activities is the most effective. A student that is capable of "teaching" the teacher a lesson and explaining the subject in their own words will have a greater understanding of the subject. When I teach and tutor I explain to the student the topic in my words, and then continue to ask for feedback until the student is capable of explaining the lesson in their own words. While attending law school, I spent 2 full academic years tutoring first year law students. I tutored property and constitutional law. I believe in identifying the learning style of the student which can take some time with some.
