Special Tutor/Teacher

I try to teach by the style that seems to be the best for that student to learn. I am very patient and realize that each student takes a varied amount of time to grasp material. Hands on materials and fun activities are great ways to keep the student engaged.
I have taught school for 29 1/2 years in Special Education . My positions were in Preschool Special Needs, Elementary Special Needs, and High School Occupational Course of Study. I have taught in both SC and NC. I love teaching preschool -elementary students. I have always had a passion for teaching because both of my grandmothers and my mother were teachers. Dyslexia is one of my top subjects! I am certified teacher at the Master's level with certifications for early childhood, elementary, special education, ESL and reading specialist. I am trained in Orton Gillingham and the Wilson program.

I graduated from Arcadia University with a Bachelor's degree in education from Arcadia University in 2014. I then went on to earn my Master's degree in education a year later from Arcadia University. Since that time, I was a classroom teacher for special needs students in an elementary setting and the lead EC teacher at my school and served on our student support team and school improvement team before becoming a district educational diagnostician. I have been tutoring since high school and have worked with students from preschool to college. I have been trained in the Wilson and Orton Gillingham reading approaches as well as mindfulness for children and teens.
I use a multi-sensory approach when teaching to meet the student's needs. I also incorporate lots of games and personal experience to make it fun and engaging.

I have B.Sc. in Fine Arts with a minor in Special Education from Texas Women's University; a B.F.A in Graphic Design from the University of Kansas; and M.F.A in Painting and Textiles from Texas Women's University. Helping children work through learning issues is my passion.

I have 22 years experience teaching public education k-6. I began my career as a special education teacher and then moved into regular education classrooms. I now tutor children from the Zoom platform since I cannot see them in my office due to the pandemic. I have been doing private tutoring for 2 years.
When working from my office, I like to use hands on activities that keep children engaged. However, since working online I use many different websites and materials that allow children to be actively engaged. I use Orton Gilligham and Wilson reading programs as well as my own materials. Special Needs Tutor: Specialties: Patience and experience

I am open as to how I instruct a child. Since my field of teaching has been that of Special Education, my students have always been allowed to develop their own learning style that is best for them. I do maintain order, but given the nature of my students, my classroom was not always what one would call typical. My students in the past have done well, and have gone on to secondary institutions.
