A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is is very "hands on." Once I know what learning style my student is,I manipulate my instruction according to their different learning styles whether they be visual, audio, etc. I am a firm believer that every child can learn, as long as they have the support they need. As a teacher, I consider myself to be patient, encouraging, and easy going. I try to make my student feel as comfortable as possible, and that depends a lot on the atmosphere of the room and the attitude of the teacher. I do set high expectations for my students because I cannot help but believe that they can achieve anything they set their mind to with hard work and a right attitude.
Having graduated with a degree in elementary education, I have learned the variety of students' learning styles and know how to target each child's unique style of learning. With a strong background in reading, ... read more

I believe teaching is best learned though practical examples (especially math). because I used to say the same thing that I'm sure that kids today are saying. When am i ever going to use this in my daily life? Its important to let them see the applications from knowing calculus based formulas to predict market declines (algorithms), to basic math in in inventory work, to understanding complex words and their proper sentence usage so they can understand what rudimentary or neophyte means in a job interview. Also, its important to inspire. most of the children/ teens in a tutoring course have been discouraged due to the fact that they are not picking up on a subject as quickly as their peers. That why its understandable that if they have someone to look up to, as i did, in a particular course they tend to do better and go beyond what they though originally possible.
Over the last 4-6 ... read more

Earlier on in my college education, my plan was to apply to Law School at MU, the university I was attending at that time. To apply, one was to have a Bachelor's degree in the area of their choice. I have always been fascinated by people . . . the way they think, how they learn, why they do what they do, etc., so I chose to major in psychology. Toward the end of my Bachelor's degree, my husband and I started a family, and the more and more I thought about things, the stronger I felt about choosing a career that was more conducive to family life . . . so I changed career paths and chose to become an elementary teacher. I transferred here to MSU (to be closer to my mom, who could help with the baby while I attended classes). At that time, I finished my degree while taking classes toward Post-Bac Teaching Certification. When I graduated in December, I had a degree in psychology, as we ... read more
