We next work on concept mapping, and linking common themes. There is a process to every step of learning. I will review often to look for missing concepts. As a teacher I realize that every student has a different style of learning, and I work to quickly understand the best ways to teach students in a one on one setting, generally using some form of self-discovery, depending on the subject. When teaching music I seek to help the student to learn good practice behavior and an understanding of where they fit in the the big picture of a music group. I believe children learn best when they can form a connection to their school work. Writing skills can be improved by using topics that are relevant to the student's life. When working on Reading skills I often use high interest topics such as the arts, sports, computers and science to encourage students to excel. Math can also become more meaningful by using real life situations and manipulatives. It is my goal to increase students' self esteem by providing situations in which they can succeed. During my 23 years of teaching I implemented Kindergarten through 6th grade New York State curriculum in a classroom setting.
