From my tutoring experiences last year, my teaching style would best be described as very proactive. Many of the students were extremely frustrated by the concepts that they did not understand. This created an apathetic attitude towards the subject. Due to the lack of interest that I observed, I decided to go through problem by problem with the students. I believe that applications to everyday life should be stressed if a tutor/teacher is to pique the interest of their student(s). Rather than stressing rote memorization, I believe it is more important to relate overall concepts in a "partnering" style. It is important to remember that one of the cornerstones of teaching is making the subject matter interesting and relevant to the student's experiences. My favorite jobs that I have had dealt with working with children. I love working with children and making a difference in their lives. No two children are the same and that is why they deserve one on one communication. Each child has their own way of learning and that is why it is important to get to know them on a personal level. I volunteered for the Special Olympics and for the D.A.R.E program from Elementary students back in 2003 and 2008. With the Special Olympics, I helped cook and serve food to the contestants in the olympics and I also was there to be a friendly and supportive coach-assistant to the athletes. When training employees, my teaching style has always been to learn by doing. I believe that people do best in learning a new task when one explains the task before doing, then shows how to do the task while explaining, and then asks the trainee to do the task with guidance. The same goes for teaching an academic subject - explain how it is done, show a couple of examples while explaining, and then ask them to try with guidance.
