My teaching philosophy and style is founded upon the belief that all children are brilliant and can succeed. My approach to teaching is highly individualized and targeted to meet a student's specific needs. If your child is struggling, I believe in figuring out the root of the problem, boredom, trouble reading or note-taking, learning style, and then finding strategies that address that difficulty directly. In teaching, I am patient, motivated, and fun. I like to make whatever I'm teaching come alive for the student. I want my students to understand that learning is a life-long process where they can explore the world; not something they are forced to do, but something that they get to do. So let's have some fun with it.

The best way to describe my teaching style without being technical is to state that at teachers' college, I took the top prize in teaching technique after being observed in the classroom by two university professors. At the university level, I discovered that my classes were always full, and I discovered subsequently through the grapevine that the students were saying that "this guy is really funny; take his class, for you are going to learn through fun."
Teaching has been my career ever since I entered a primary classroom at age 16 and finished teaching graduate and undergraduate students. I was trained as a teacher at The Leewards Teachers' Training College (in Antigua), an affiliate of University of the West Indies (Jamaica). As a Primary and Secondary School teacher, I taught English Grammar, Mathematics, and the Social Sciences. Although I have strong mathematical skills, I pr ... read more

Creative Writing is one of my top subjects! B.A. Creative Writing This is my main concentration and passion when it comes to the Language Arts as well as the Performing Arts

I don't like to tell you what to learn, but rather guide you to see it for yourself, allowing you to come to the right conclusion on your own. Helping you teach yourself, so that when the time comes for that test or that epic paper, you will know you can do it because you know it.

Creative Writing is one of my top subjects!

Repetitious in manner.
My experience has been primarily with children within my school or those around my neighborhood. I find that children are more capable of learning in a stable environment that they are familiar with. Children respond well with well timed incentives and subtle reprimands of lost focus. Students are more likely to acknowledge a lack of concentration skills once their intelligence is put into question. Under my tutoring students are able to concentrate more and see an improvement in their grades. Ill behaved children are more likely to round out their behavior once an appropriate hobby is acquired for them and holds their interests. All materials should be produced based on the individual child's rights.

My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : Not only have I done this type of writing myself, I have forecasted others' writing for the book trade; since I have a breadth of knowledge of all types of current creative writing, I can help you to release your own creativity, for purposes of schoolwork, or perhaps even publication.

I hold a Bachelors in English with a minor in Philosophy and Religion. I have years of experience in business writing and in creative writing and poetry; some work in advertising and PR as well. I read books for money, forecasting pre-publication fiction for the trade magazine Publisher's Weekly. English is the most beautiful, malleable and useful language on earth! Whatever you learn now will greatly assist you in school and in the job market of the future.

More About This Tutor...

I am the author of five historical novels and a number of articles, poems and short stories. I occasionally do short “residences” teaching Language Arts and Drama to special needs students in k-12 schools for VSA Arts of Florida. My graduate studies emphasized American and Tudor/Stuart History. My doctorate included a Criminal Justice minor. I regularly teach writing and grant writing seminars to adults, usually through libraries on weekends or in the evening.
I believe everyone will respond well to individualized instruction when the tutor studies the student's learning style and offers the information in the form best suited to each learner. I am patient and encouraging with students. I work hard to find ways to present a subject so that each learner will find it interesting.

I love kids and would like to see all kids meet their goals. I allow kids to express themselves and see what level they are on so I will know where to start working. I build on what they already know and use it to reach the next level. All kids can learn if you make it fun and interesting. I had a tutor when I was in school and she found ways that were interesting to help me solve different problems. After a couple of weeks I tho ... read more
