A Little Bit About Me...

I have 20 years experience in the marines, so I have a no nonsense approach to teaching and tutoring. My own two children (boys, now grown) will tell you that despite my military bearing, I am patient and understanding with kids. I believe the best way to teach children (or anyone) is to create the conditions that will encourage and allow them to teach themselves. I believe that adults model for children continuously. Children mimic our thought processes and our problem solving techniques. We teach best through example. My goal has always been to give children the tools and self-confidence to think and explore for themselves. I model self-confidence and creative problem solving. I encourage kids to ask questions and develop the skills for finding the answers. I mentor as much as I tutor.
I have always excelled in school. My master's degree GPA is 3.8. my undergraduate degree GPA is ... read more

I believe that everyone learns in different ways and at different speeds; teaching begins with discovering the learning needs of each student. With this understanding, I believe that essentially any student can learn any subject if the curriculum is engineered to meet that student's learning needs. While the classroom encourages group learning, individual tutoring can meet the individual needs of each student. As a tutor, I enjoy overcoming barriers to learning, connecting with the student on his or her own level, and communicating the subject material through an individualized method.
While earning my degree in English, I developed teaching and communication skills through both curricular and extra-curricular experiences. As an intended Secondary Education minor, I took many classes in education, including a middle and high school practicum. I also tutored students in grammar ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching for the last 8 years. I have a Bachelors of Science Degree from Greensboro College in North Carolina. I am Florida certified in Exceptional Student Education and Middle Grades Integrated curriculum. I am currently teaching Science, Math, Life Skills and Social Personal Skills. I have a great deal of teaching children who have difficulties grasping subject matter. I utilize proven research based protocols to ensure that my students are getting a quality education.
I am a firm believer in that every child can succeed in whatever they strive for if they are given proper instruction. Even difficult learners can succeed if the proper teaching methods are employed. Different students have different stimuli that they respond to. There is no one cookie cutter mold for teaching. After all, each student is an individual and responds in their own way. More About This Tutor...

My philosophy of education focuses on student-centered learning. When students learn to be accountable for their own behavior and learning, they become practiced in valuable life-skills and become better prepared for the future. Further, I believe student-centered learning to be most effective, because students relish the idea of being entrusted to make their own decisions.
I am a licensed teacher and have a degree in English Education. My real-life experience has indoctrinated: strong organizational skills, teamwork and independent thinking. I have held several positions of responsibility and am self-motivated and self-directed.
