My comments on tutoring Reading : I have student teaching experience in the elementary school setting.

I studied Elementary Education during my undergraduate. During this time, I was a student teacher on several different occasions. I assisted the home room teacher and independently planned and taught lessons to the students. I have worked with grades 1 to 5 as a student teacher. I enjoyed teaching and was a very passionate teacher, but I realized that work as a social worker would allow me to help my students on a more personal level. During my work as a social worker, I worked with clients in the school and home setting. I educated teachers and school staff regarding my client's mental illnesses, and I developed classroom strategies to help my clients thrive in the classroom. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that students need guidance and structure in order to reach their highest potential. In the classroom, instruction can only be differentiated so much. Individual tutoring would allow me the chance to really meet a student at their level and understand their learning style.

I believe making the information relevant to the student is important. I like to use humor and real-life examples to keep students engaged. I believe that it is important to know how the child learns to be able to present the material to them in the best manner for them which is what I would base my style on.
I obtained Secondary Teacher Certification in Social Sciences. I taught high school and middle school Spanish for two and half years at public schools, and completed my student teaching at an alternative school for juvenile criminals. I was an at home teacher for my school district when children were out for extended periods due to illness. I have completed additional continuing education in working with gifted and special needs children. After graduating from Purdue University in 2003 I was fortunate to have myriad teaching experiences with students of varied skill and income levels. I started my career in elementary education but quickly found a love for middle school where I began teaching English in 2004. I thoroughly enjoy working with a student on the craft of writing and seeing them bloom as an author.
