Teaching is in my blood. Both my parents were teachers. My father was a college professor and my mother was an elementary school teacher. As a PSR working in the school setting I students that were considered by some as untrainable. Often the students believed they were unable to learn or were dumb since they had always been told they were. I was able to work with some of the most difficult. I would make up games and contests to get them to try something. I believe in lots of encouragement and was recently told by one of my former clients, who couldn't read or write in the 7th grade, "I am really going to graduate this year. As a recent graduate form BYU-Idaho, I have gained a greater appreciation for how important it is to learn the basics of math and science in order to succeed. I have earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering, with an emphasis in automation and robotics. The classes required to earn this degree have required an advanced understanding of linear Algebra, geometry, calculus, physics, and technical writing. In addition, I have formally tutored statistic students I believe that when the basic concepts of math and science are mastered, the complex concepts become simple. These subjects also need to be taught using real life examples so that students can see the importance of learning them. During college I had the opportunity to tutor while going to school. In our Math lab I was able to tutor one on one, as well as a in a group setting. I have excelled in mathematics since early childhood. As such, I pursued a career in engineering and technology. I acquired a Bachelors degree in Electronics Engineering, and did so in 3 years. I have spent a great deal of time over the past 15 years instructing others in mathematics,physics, and the sciences ranging from grade school to college level to fellow colleagues within my various careers. I am a firm believer that teaching requires the passing of understanding and not just knowledge. Everyone learns in a different way, and as such information must be presented in different ways to get through to differing individuals.
