Currently, I am a student attending the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. At UT, I am majoring in Microbiology and maintaining a 3.18 GPA. During my education, I have had great opportunities to study the sciences and mathematics; however, history and philosophy are fun to study as well. In my studies of science, I have studied through all introductory biology and chemistry classes including both sections of organic chemistry. My mathematic studies have taken me from Algebra to Differential Equations and Calculus 3 (Multi-Variable). I enjoy interacting with students of all ages and levels in a variety subject matter. In my disciplines, the value of understanding totally outweighs rote memorization and learning of “recipes” for solving problems. I believe students understand new concepts in terms of their previous experience and background. I attempt to link previous experience to new experience and promote meaningful learning. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style can be called old-fashioned: the best results come from patient, focused, disciplined time on task. To learn math one must work a variety of problems, and practice them diligently. My strength as a tutor is my ability to explain the algorithms in a way that students can easily grasp. This includes the vitally important requirement of why the problem is worked the way it is, not simply how.
I taught high-school math for 14 years, everything from Pre-Algebra to Calculus, in both public and private schools. I also have extensive writing experience, including for many newspapers, and am currently teaching Political Science at the Community-College level. Thus, I could tutor math, and/or any subject or assignment that required verbal and writing skills. I tutored UTK athletes in math and philosophy, and proctored Pre-Calculus at UTK as well.

While completing my undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at University of Idaho, I was often called upon to tutor people within the building where I lived during college. I also was employed by the University to grade papers and offer assistance to underclassmen in the Chemical Engineering department. From this experience, I have gained both the knowledge in math and science and the understanding of how to use different approaches with different people to deliver the lesson.
