Don't tell me 2+2=4. Tell me WHY 2+2=4.

Although I wish I could count the endless amount of time I spent playing teacher as a child, I know parents are looking for more expierence than an eight year old and her dolls. I have tutored children, ages ranging from eight to fourteen, off and on for three years. I have expierence and am personally more comfortable helping with English and math centered tutoring for any grade level but am able to help with other elementary level classes.I've had the privilege to help with the passionate and the difficult and have been able to produce satisfactory results for all parties involved.

At Boise State University I was the coordinator and facilitator for the Active Learning in Mathematics Program, I lead a twelve member engineering student team and coordinated twenty plus math sessions. I was promoted based on leadership roles, determination, team work, going beyond job requirements to achieve objectives, and implemented new ideas. When I was a high school student, I tutored pre-algebra, geometry and algebra, Shakespeare, World Literature, and Earth Science. I managed my own clients and improved test scores with every client. During the summer of 2005, I tutored mentally disabled children in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I attended the University of Idaho and have received a B.S. in Mathematics. While there, I worked at the Polya Math Lab, tutoring college algebra. I continued to tutor on my own during college, and have tutored in all forms of vector calculus, from methods of integration to 3d modeling. I was a teacher at a Christian Boarding school in California for 27 years. I taught Junior High and High School Math and Science as well as Wood Shop, Metal Shop and Physical Education. Currently I teach High School Math and Science in Marsing, Idaho.
I believe anyone can learn. Some may have to work harder at it than others. With others you may need to find different approaches but anyone can learn. In my classrooms I teach the individual students not the class. The biggest challenge for a teacher is giving the students the confidence that they can learn. Teach a student how to learn and he will learn anything he wants to.

Working with such a diverse population of students ranging from grades 3-12, I have learned that each child processes information in different ways. Assisting them in overcoming their learning disability has taught me to understand and identify their struggles and how they can work through them. I teach positive social and communication skills through small group discussions and lecture based presentations. Much of my teaching experience is rooted in one-on-one and small group interaction.
