Spelling is one of my top subjects!

I have worked in Metro Nashville School system as a DIrector of Bordeaux Northwest Family Resource Center where my focus was "Children Will Succeed in School". My focus was securing tutors for students who were not reading on grade level. During this tenure I was successful in assisting more than 150 students successfully meet their goals.
I perfer to work with students one on one. I feel that reading or the lack of the ability to read effects every other subject. It is also important for the student to understand what they are reading (comprehension, rather thatn just calling words. I like to question students about wht subject matter. I also think Phonics have been placed on the back burner, I think phonics are extremely important.

One of the most important things a teacher of Language Arts can get a student to do is write. The more a student writes, the more in tune they become with their own style of expression. This not only aids in prose development, but also communication in all forms. I believe that all children are capable of understanding parts of speech and writing well. A Little Bit About Me...

As the daughter of educators, I have been exposed to the education system all my life. As a result of this exposure, I became very interested in tutoring and teaching. I taught for two years as a substitute teacher before attending law school. I previously worked as a substitute teacher with Morrow Elementary in North Lauderdale, Florida where I taught test-taking strategies for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. Most recently, I have volunteered with Youth Encouragement services as a tutor.
Based on previous experience I have discovered that the same teaching style does not work for every child. I find that explaining each topic and asking the child question gives a clear indication of their understanding.
