My comments on tutoring Statistics : I have tutored undergraduate and master's degree students in statistics. I wrote and interactive math education software program that includes statistics.

I have over 15 years as a succesful instructor and tutor (middle school, high school, under graduate and graduate students)of mathematics, computer science (computer programing)and business courses including accounting, finance, statistics, economis, medical dosage calculations, hospital information statistics, etc. I also founded my Company, Alpha Omega Education and Training Systems,Ltd., in 2001. This Company develops interactive math education software for schools, collges and individuals.
Punctual - prepared and professional. I look at learning rep. styles of students (pictorial, word or kinesthehic). I try to make the learning experience as painless as possible (especially math). I start with pre-tests to gauge where a student is at, then follow-up with teaching content and finish with a post-test to gauge learing objectives that have been met. I try to find a common, basic level of understanding with the student and then show how a few key insights can help the student broaden her/his knowledge. In math, for example, this typically means showing how elementary concepts can be applied to simplify more complex problems, such as showing how such things as the distributive and associative properties are being used in solving equations, sometimes in a context where these things are often glossed over.
I have taught computer science courses in business college, and I taught algebra, calculus, and statistics as a graduate student. I remain convinced of the necessity of obtaining basic math skills for success in today's world, and I spend a lot of time maintaining my own skills in math and computers. I am currently spending 8-12 hours per day, mostly programming vectors and mathematical functions as spreadsheet macros.

I believe the key to learning is to break complex concepts down into manageable sizes. The goal of tutoring is to relate new or difficult material to simple ideas that are already familiar to the student. Above all else, it is important to communicate with the student to understand where the breakdown in understanding is and then develop an approach that aids in comprehension.
I earned three degrees in five years, all in quantitative disciplines. The range of material covered by those degrees includes mathematics and statistics, economics, and some computer programming. Beyond my education background, I have five years of experience tutoring. In high school, I tutored children in reading and writing and other high school students in mathematics and Latin. In college, I have one additional year of experience tutoring introductory calculus.

A Little Bit About Me...

Younger people need sometimes more than one exposure to math and the sciences. I know I did. Part of the problem is the pre anxiety associated with taking these more rigorous courses. My philosophy is to break down the subjects into digestible parts. Also I feel the student must be shown practical applications with various different resources, revealing the common threads of the processes. There is no reason math and science should be thought of as beyond the reach of any student.
Since leaving my position in biotech, I have been occasionally tutoring high school and undergraduate college students. Most of my experience is in math and physics. I earned a BS and MS and then went to work for five years mostly in optical imaging applications. As a student seeking a MS, I also taught undergraduate physics labs.

I have worked in education for more than six years and am very dedicated to fostering student growth and development. I genuinely love teaching and tutoring students. My years in education have taught me that every child can learn and succeed but I also believe that each student learns differently and tutoring must be individualized to meet that student’s needs. I also believe that it is vitally important to assist students to develop a love of learning. I am organized, focused and thorough, yet I am laid-back and relaxed and use humor in tutoring and teaching; I feel this helps students to see learning as fun rather than a chore. I am passionate about teaching and want to assist students in being prepared and successful.

With my level of collegiate expertise, I have always been the go to person when a question arose from friends, family, or other fellow classmates concerning help with an assignment. Having a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Systems and an MBA in Executive Business Administration allows me to be pretty versatile when it comes to education related questions. I helped a friend with some high school and collegiate mathematics to graduate high school and assimilate into college. The duration of my assistance lasted a little over a year.
I love helping others!! I feel that if an individual loves to help, aide, and teach others then the ability to teach comes naturally. I am patient, easy going, and willing to do what it takes to make sure that all concepts are understood before attempting to move forward.

A Little Bit About Me...

My style is based on the fundamentals; you cannot progress unless the basics are understood. Only after understanding the basics can an individual move to a higher level of understanding. I am there to facilitate the basics so that we can move together in understanding more advanced concepts. Those students I had at Bryant & Stratton years ago applauded me for introducing them to the basic understanding of accounting. It still baffles me that many professionals fail to understand what a source document is; several associtaes thing that when they prepare an Excel spreadsheet that this is "the source". This is an ancillary or supportive document, but not the source of information.
As an accounting graduate of a certified institution of higher learning with emphasis on the "hands-on" approach to learning, I have used this same approach in dealing with subordinates. Understanding accou ... read more
