A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching piano in 1975, the summer after my sophomore year in high school. I continued to teach through college. As a teacher, I have been able to utilize both my BME (Bachelor of Music Education) and my Bachelor and subsequent Masters Degrees in Music Therapy to support my students wide range of learning needs. I have also taken additional classes in psychology and classes that dealt with learning disabilities. I believe that I can effectively utilize these skills as a tutor.
I have worked with children for many years and in many different settings. I vary my teaching style. Some students are content with just reading while others need hands-on and visual experience. I believe in using technology, as the Smart Board and computer instruction in addition to textbook instruction. I do my best to keep the student's interest in mind, and I work at the student's pace. From 1999-2003, I have served as a third grade Teacher's Aide focusing on on reading, memorization and basic math tutoring. Since 1999, I also have tutored middle, high school, and college students in pre-algebra, algebra, geography, computer skills, writing, and grammar. My master's degree has trained me in learning techniques.
