I would like to advise you of the experiences I have working with the STEM program. I have completed three weeks of training in the Project Lead the Way program at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. PLTW has prepare me with the tools I need to execute the STEM curriculum in Middle Schools. I was able to receive training in the areas of Automation and Robotics, Design and Modeling and Medical Detectives. These three areas in the middle school have allowed me to prepare students for the 21st century. In these three areas, students are introduced to world of engineering with building robots, designing solutions to real life problems, and the biomedical science field. While attending Claflin University in the pursuit of obtaining duel BA's in the field of journalism and sociology, my off times was spent in the middle schools of Orangeburg, SC for nearly six years. I spent 4-5 hours in the classroom (daily) as an assistant and tutor/mentor in language arts classes grades 6-8. My majoring in sociology allows me to use human behavioral knowledge to reach kids effectively in order to sustain their focus which allows them to embrace the concept of learning. I have extensive grammatical skills due to I have worked as a journalist for a daily newspaper and written several research papers that has been published in respected journals.
