I have taught many different students from all types of backgrounds, from gifted to learning disabled. The reason I have success with these students is because I make learning fun and relevant. I develop creative tools that are of interest to that particular student, while cultivating a great deal of empathy. This is based on getting to know the family the child is a member of. By understanding the lifestyle,demographics and cultural nuances, I can determine any problems that may deter from learning, and any strengths which can be built upon. Over the past 10 years I have had the pleasure of tutoring over 150 children. While receiving a Teacher Education Certificate, Human Services A.S. and a Sociology B.A., I have committed myself to scholastic excellence. In my work with The Boy's and Girl's Club, Americorps, Y.M.C.A. and the Hispanic Outreach Center I have completed more than 1000 tutoring session; in over 50 Schenectady Schools, community programs and public libraries. In each one to one experience, the child improved at least 2-grade level in reading comprehension and 1-grade level in math.
