As a professional educator it is my responsibility to make sure that all my students are given the skills and tools they need to help them to be successful in their next grade level. I am always open to learning new styles, and often take part in researching new practices. Most of my teaching, however, is based on the direct teaching model. I like to start each class with an anticipatory set, challenging students to use their critical thinking skills. Then the skill set or information set is modeled by me, practiced with guidance by the students, and finally, the students are given an independent practice exercise. Each lesson is built upon the successful incorporation of the prior skill set taught. I would define my teaching style as hands on. If I can find a real life example of the material at hand, I will use it. I love to work on whiteboards/ chalkboards with students. This way they are out of their seat and showing me what they know. I am very willing to bend to any style of learning. Playing games, creating flashcards, repetitive drilling of information.
