Experience Summary
In addition to five years of experience teaching high school biology, I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Secondary Education and a Master’s Degree in Education; Moderate Special Needs. I am licensed in Massachusetts in Biology grades 8-12 and Moderate Disabilities grades 5-12. My experience working at a private school for students diagnosed with Language-Based Learning Disability has given me the necessary tools to incorporate study skills, as well as reading and writing skills, into the science curriculum. My experience includes teaching biology, chemistry, marine science, daily one-on-one language arts tutorials, and private tutoring in organic chemistry and anatomy and physiology.
Teaching Style
I believe that that goal of education is to understand the world around us, not to merely memorize facts. I tell my students all the time that I do not want them to memorize anything, but I want them to understand the concepts so that they can logically figure out the answers and apply their knowledge to the world around them. To achieve comprehension, I use engaging activities and discussion, hands-on learning opportunities, and visual supplements to help my students learn. I also believe it is important to learn and apply study skills to each subject in order for students to meet their full potential. I am passionate about engaging and motivating students and love working with students for whom learning does not always come easy.
