A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is hands-on wherever applicable, such as in a laboratory envioronment. I use a great deal of humor too, and expect lots of student participation.
I am currently an electroincs instructor at UAF Community and Technical College. I have over 100 published technical articles, and am the recipient of the William Orr Technical Writing Award, conferred by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). I have just written a major book, "Radio Science for the Radio Amateur" to be published by ARRL later this year. For nearly ten years I was a development engineer for the UCLA department of Plasma Physics, and have worked in a number of different types of laboratories.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am an electrician in the Air Force, which has driven me to excel in everything I do. I have earned a bachelor degree in Occupational Education. I have taken extensive classes in math and have taken chemistry in pursuit of my degree. In addition, I have spent five years teaching electrical theory to new Airmen in the Air Force. Teaching algebra to Airmen from different educational backgrounds and knowledge was challenging and very rewarding.
I enjoy working with and teaching children. I love to see their eyes light up when they start to understand a concept or a problem. I believe children are individuals. I believe that all children learn differently. I, myself, am a very hands-on learner and I have expressed my learning styles in my teaching styles and it has been very receptive. I believe that as a teacher/tutor, one needs to find what the child is interested in and use that knowledge to adapt the curriculum to them.

I am patient and dedicated to teaching the student not just math, but also to use their own textbook and resources to study on their own. When I tutor, I have another goal, second to having the student pass their math class: learning to study so they won't need to rely on a tutor. I also have a flexible schedule, and can easily adapt to the student's learning style.
In high school, I learned to love the formulaic simplicity of algebra and during my years at UAF, learned to fully appreciate the beauty and tricky complexity of Calculus.
