If you don't like the results, I haven't done my job.

I won the state championship in the 100 meters and went to Adams State College in Alamosa CO. Broke a leg in track and received withdrawn F across the board. Left college and healed up. Went to the Army two years and reserve three years. Came back and picked up the quickest degree possiable. Moved to Hawwaii, three years. Became a ciritified dept of defense government contractor. Furnish and deliver contracts. Ended up moving back home to Albuquerque NM. I started working in the Indian Casinos for 13 years. I bought a house and retired. But now I'm tired of sitting around.
All I do is tend to my students needs. I'm personal. Like to get off track with my students and lead them back to the point.

A Little Bit About Me...

For the past year-and-a-half, I have worked as a long-term substitute teacher for the Palm Springs Unified School District, acting as the virtual teacher of record in dedicated classrooms on several occasions. Inherent in that experience, I developed lesson plans and graded student work, as well as liaised with parents and administration. I am versed in the California Content Standards across curriculums and have passed my CBEST, as well as my CSET.
Fair, firm and consistent are my mantras of classroom management. In that, I believe that all children deserve a safe, clean, engaging, yet structured environment in which to meet their full potential. I firmly believe that learning is a team affair, and practice the standards of cooperative learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

I approach each student as an individual and develop a learning plan that will instill confidence while assuring that the student is able to understand and perform the subject matter skills for academic success. My ability to relate to students and understand their perspective allows me to quickly develop a relationship on which I am able to build a foundation of trust and commitment so that the student actively engages in learning. By using a diagnostic approach, we jointly determine the student’s current level of knowledge and quickly reinforce that foundation before proceeding with instruction on more advanced grade level requirements. I use models and schemas that the student can internalize to teach and then re-teach the structure so that concepts connect and then continue to build skills that advance retention and equip the student with the intellectual map to demonstrate competen ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Although I tutored math (geometry, algebra II) and biology in high school, I ended up graduating from UCLA with a BA in Political Science. Somewhat of an about-face in studies, I sought to be more versatile academically and subsequently was enriched with an encompassing and very satisfying social sciences education. Preparation for the degree required "allied field" courses to be taken in other social science classes such as sociology, history, economics and psychology. Courses in statistics and writing were also part of the program. I am well versed to teach math (up to algebra II), biology and any subjects pertaining to social studies (government, economics, world and U.S. history).
One of the key elements of tutoring is communication between the tutor and student. Encouraging discussion instead of lecturing of the subject is important. Facilitating good rapport allows me to ... read more

I have been a substitute teacher in Long Beach, Santa Barbara, Glendale, and Palm Springs. I have had experience as a long term substitute in Senior English for a year at Palm Springs High School, also in Palm Springs, I did six months as a Special Education teacher at Cree Middle School. For as long as I can remember I have desired to become a teacher. I didn't pursue it initially because I was lured to careers which netted a greater return on my investment, I thought. I later returned to school and continue education eagerly. I am very much able to connect to students with various backgrounds, abilities and challenges. I have developed a style that not only includes direct instruction but hands-on, inquiry based learning that fosters retention and is delivered in a positive, upbeat, fun environment. I love children and working with them comes very natural for me. I was born to teach and it is manifested by the two-way love and respect shown as well as the progress made by my students.
Prior to teaching, I worked as a human resources professional and have learned all phases of human resources with a specialty for recruitment. I have taken the tenets of huma ... read more

I greatly enjoy working with people of all ages and education levels. I believe all children can and want to be educated; unfortunately school teachers do not have the time to decipher the unique way in which each of their students' learns. Alas this does not allow every child to reach their full potential. I am patient, considerate, and through my education have learned the many ways that individuals learn and how to work with each kind of learner. I believe all children can meet their full capabilities with the proper learning experiences and proper learning techniques.
As a recent graduate with a BA in Sociology I've acquired an ample understanding in the social sciences, focusing on psychology, history, social studies, language arts, sociology, and linguistics all four years I attended. I graduated from Cal Baptist University with a 3.87 GPA. My major was Kinesiology with concentrations in exercise science and physical education. During my senior year in college, I would regularly tutor my fellow classmates in anatomy and physiology and I am just finishing up taking biology at College of the Desert.
I really enjoy tutoring kids in science classes because it is something that interests me and that I understand, so I want anyone who I tutor to know everything that I know. Since I am set to going to Physical Therapy school in 2010, it is a subject that I have to know very well, therefore, I have a lot of information about it.

As a Merchant Marine and Chief Steward I have taught, tutored, or mentor kids of all ages and backgrounds. My passion when teaching is to try and breakdown the subject to it's most basic level. A level that the person being taught can understand. Having work with kids from different ethnic and educational backgrounds I find this to be very affective and productive. Also, not having been a great student in high school with dyslexia, I have been able to over come these short comings and graduate from collage with honors.
Find out what level the student is at, what their interest are, what the like about learning or hate about learning and go from their. As each person is different and each person learns in their own way. Learning is not hard, finding out how to learn is.

My education experience has led me to have a passion to learn. I always had the pleasure to tutor my peers throughout my school years. I love helping and watching people get to the moment where everything is becomes clear. I have graduated with a BS in Business Administration, majoring in Finance. Math has always come natural to me.
