Graduated with honors from the University of Florida with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. It has been my great pleasure to have taken part in several classroom setting teaching opportunities and numerous tutoring jobs. I taught Chemistry and Calculus to incomming university freshman in the Engineering Freshman Transition Program (eFTP) and proctored and designed the University of Florida's Tissue Engineering Lab class. My mentoring style is geared to the personality of each student, and I'm very engaged in what he or she needs. I fully understand that there IS such a thing as "Math Anxiety" (that hinders students, not just in Math, but other subjects too), so we work hard to overcome it! My students at Palm Beach State are blown away that on Day1 of each course I play a Jimmy Buffet song called "Math Sucks" and allow them to voice agreement with it. I then ask them to give me a shot at changing that perception. It's a rewarding experience, when at the end of the term, they tell me things like: "Dr B, you're a chill teacher!" Next I try and evaluate the way the student processes infrmation so I can explain the problem adn solution 'in their language'. In college I majored in Chemistry with a year in Physics and Biology. I have earned my BS and MS in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Florida, which has given me a strong understanding of science and mathematics. While there I was also a teaching assistant for senior and graduate level engineering courses which required strong knowledge of geometry, algebra, and differential/integral calculus.
