Creating Independent Learners

My experience dates back to when I was in high school in the early 80's tutoring students and family members. I've also taught classes on Management of Aggressive Behavior / Appled Non-Violence to mental health professionals throughout the Las Vegas Valley and surrounding communities. I believe that each child learns in his or her own way and you, as a teacher, must provide opportunities for all students to learn. I believe teachers must be flexible and willing to change plans to accomodate the needs and interests of the class. I believe that children need to be given a good foundation especially in reading. Reading is the most important skill because without reading students will have difficulty in all other subjects.
I have been teaching for 15 years. If children are taught to read the right way they will not have problems later on. Difficulties should be caught early in order to help students overcome them. I have been tutoring for two years.
