Reading Comprehension is one of my top subjects!

I have taught for four years from Kindergarten to Third Grade. I was responsible for teaching math, reading, english language arts, social studies, science, phonics, and handwriting. Besides teaching at the Elementary level, I was the Gifted Coordinator for students in grades Kindergarten to 12th. I have made accommodations to fit the needs of each student and use enrichment to help students learn to their highest potential. I worked at a child care, tutored over the summer, and coached a multiple amount of activities.

A Little Bit About Me...

The single most important thing about being a teacher or mentor is to be respectful, socially aware, and sensitive. Okay, that's three things, but they kind of go together. The second most important thing about being a mentor is to create understanding about the underlying principle of whatever it is he or she is learning about. Once you understand the underlying principle, the "how to" stuff becomes a *lot* easier to understand and remember. On the other hand, a person who's trying to learn the "how to" stuff without understanding the underlying principles is likely to forget key things, to be tripped up when an unexpected question arises, and to get into other trouble.

I have always had a passion for education, eagerly obtaining my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education-related fields immediately out of high school. I have worked within school districts as a student teacher, substitute teacher and long-term/permanent substitute teacher for a combined total of over 3 years. My favorite part about teaching is working one on one with students and watching their skills and motivation progress.
