My comments on tutoring Elementary Vocabulary : I have been to several vocabulary trainings within the district that I am working in and through ESU. I am currently teaching vocabulary to a group of 4th and 5th grade students who are struggling learners. I have found that extensive practice and relating the words to real life experiences is very helpful. Also providing students with pictures and hands on information can help them make connections with new or unfamiliar words.

I have been a teacher with CPS for four years. I am currently a Special Education teacher for grades K-5. I teach a caseload of 33 students ranging in abilities. I have a significant amount of experience teaching reading, math, and writing to struggling learners. In addition to working with students that have disabilities, I also have a degree in Elementary Education. I teach regular education students within my intervention groups throughout my school day. I teach with multiple strategies to best fit the needs of the learner. I also have quite a bit of experience in teaching with technology (smartboards, iPads, apple tv, doc cam, etc)

A Little Bit About Me...

Coming from a family of academicians, and a father who has a doctorate in education, I learned to love learning at an early age and have always valued education and try to instill that in others. I am proficient in many areas and work well with all people from all walks of life, at varying levels. My experience comes from being in a helping profession, in which I assisted hundreds of people live up to and achieve their highest potential. Having three children of my own with varying learning styles, as w well as working with other children and adults, enhanced my my ability to understand individuals and how they learn.
I take a non-judgmental approach, and start where the student is at. Putting a client at ease and forming a trusting connection with the tutor, is vital to the ultimate success of tutoring, (as well as competency in the subject matter.)
